Project Update: August 4

DarkSky International conducted its site inspection and light testing on the evening of Thursday, July 30. The park's lighting met all DarkSky International certification criteria, and Chimney Park has now been officially certified as a DarkSky International site.

Key benefits and certification criteria achieved include:

  • Minimizes neighborhood lighting nuisance by significantly reducing local spill light and glare
  • Manages high-angle light pollution, thus dramatically decreasing off-site light trespass and sky glow
  • Mitigates neighborhood light pollution and sky glow, which will benefit the environment, the astronomy community and others impacted by poorly designed outdoor sports facilities
  • Avoids over lighting, thereby reducing energy consumption
