Currently, the intersection has a four-way traffic light stop, but the roundabout will help accommodate higher traffic volumes and provide more efficient travel for commuters. By replacing the traffic light with a roundabout, the town aims to make the intersection safer and more efficient for both local residents and drivers passing through the area. This project, part of the 2020 Transportation Master Plan Update, is intended to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at the intersection.

The town will work with Poudre Valley Rural Electric Association (PVREA) to relocate critical utility lines that are in the way of the future roundabout. PVREA and its contractors will be moving the utilities until construction to clear the area, so that the town’s contractor can begin roadway construction in 2026. While this work will take place outside the main roadway, on all four corners of the intersection, traffic will remain open. The town expects some equipment activity as utilities are relocated, but the goal is to minimize disruption to drivers during the process.

    Final plans have been completed and shared with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) for review and necessary clearance approvals. Construction is expected to begin early summer through the end of the year, weather permitting. A winter pause will be in place until early 2027 when site restoration, landscaping and cleanup work can be resumed for project closeout. East-west travel along Crossroads Blvd will be maintained for the duration of construction using temporary traffic control to phase roundabout construction and associated roadwork.

This project will transform the intersection into a modern, multi-lane roundabout designed to improve safety and traffic flow while expanding multimodal connections, including dedicated bike lanes, pedestrian crossings, and connections adjacent development. The roundabout is a key piece of the town’s ongoing efforts to enhance mobility, reduce congestion and create safer, more connected travel options for all users. More updates will be shared as the project timeline is finalized.
