This project is designed to enhance safety and connectivity for pedestrians at key railroad crossings throughout town. The upgrades will provide safer and more accessible routes for pedestrians, improving overall connectivity within Windsor's pedestrian network. These changes aim to make the community more walkable while addressing critical safety needs at railroad crossings.

The improvements will focus on adding sidewalks at several railroad crossings and nearby areas. New sidewalks will be constructed on the west side of 15th St., the north and south side of Main St., the west side of 1st St., and both crossings of CO 257 between the cemetery and Chestnut St. Additional sidewalks will connect key areas, including along the south side of Main St. from 1st to 3rd St., the west side of 1st St. from the rail crossing to Main St., and the west side of CO 257 from Walnut to Chestnut St.

The project includes installing pedestrian pathways at crossings and improving the connections between them. Railroad panels will be added to ensure sidewalks provide a safe and smooth passage over the tracks. Other work will include drainage improvements and relocating utility pedestals and streetlights to accommodate the new infrastructure.

Recent work on 15th St. included installing pipe in a section of the irrigation ditch, adding new railroad crossing material, detectable warning strips, paved sidewalks, and grading.

At CR 17, crews replaced railroad tracks, installed new crossing material, rebuilt roadway approaches with full-depth asphalt, and completed signage and striping. Gates and flashers are set for installation starting Wednesday, Aug. 20.

Sidewalk construction is progressing on 1st St. (Main St. to the railroad tracks) and CO 257 ( Lakeview Cemetery to Chestnut St.), both expected to wrap up in early fall.

On Main St., the railroad crossing will be entirely replaced in October for safety improvements, with sidewalk work to follow. Coordination with Xcel Energy to relocate light poles is required before the sidewalk can be constructed along the south side of Main Street from the railroad tracks to 1st St.
