The primary goal of Public Services is to provide the traveling public with the safest driving surface possible in an efficient and economical way with resources available to the Town of Windsor during snowstorms.

The town strives to remove snow and ice from our roadways as quickly and efficiently as possible while keeping roads open and essential traffic moving. This does not mean bare and dry pavement should be expected after each snowstorm. The goal of snow and ice operations is to return road surfaces to safe winter driving conditions as soon as possible.

Our Snow Process

A lot goes into snow season, and we’re ready for it. So far, we’re only missing one thing…❄️

Windsor’s Snow and Ice Removal Team’s mission is to ensure the traveling public has the safest surface possible with the most efficient and economical use of the resources provided.

Our snow team is made up of 30+ employees from multiple divisions including public works, parks and facilities. We use a variety of equipment to clear snow including large plows, pick-up plows, snow blowers and even a tractor.

Snow Survey Results

Thank you to the over 600 residents and community members that took the Windsor Snow & Ice Removal: Community Expectation & Satisfaction Survey this past spring. We received feedback from all town districts and have taken a close look at survey data and community comments. In response, we are looking to create more opportunities to communicate with residents during a storm by providing text and email alerts, in addition to our regular social media updates on Facebook, Nextdoor and Twitter. We are also working to better explain our approach to snow removal and how we prioritize during a storm.
Moving forward, we are exploring options to expand our snow removal services. This includes, but is not limited to, finding ways to better support our residents with disabilities, servicing all streets within Windsor city limits, providing additional education, and creating a clear plan for when and how sidewalks and trails are addressed during snow events.

Staff have received the results of the Snow Survey and they are currently reviewing data and determining how it impacts Windsor’s snow removal processes. Our goal is to report results and action items before the start of the next snow season which starts in late September.
