Design for Harmony Ridge Park Confirmed

The park is currently under construction at the corner of Goslar Drive and Harmony Ridge Parkway and we are anticipating an opening in late summer 2023.

Throughout 2021, the town has engaged the community in the process to hear about their preferred park design and amenities.

“As our town evolves, our goal is to build a public space that fits the needs of our current and future residents, the neighborhoods, and the children who play here,” said Tara Fotsch, deputy director of Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture. “By listening to our residents, we are building with them in mind. Their input has a direct impact on how we build this playground.”

In June, 2021, residents of the community packed a conference room at the Windsor Community Recreation Center and participated in an open conversation with Fotsch and the architect team DTJ Design. At the meeting, children and adults viewed several architect design concepts and took advantage of the crayons, markers, and stationery paper, placed at each table to draw a playground with their preferred amenities. The drawings were collected by DTJ Design architect team, reviewed, and used as a guide to draft two concepts displayed at the August 12, 2021 community meeting where residents voted for their favorite.

The August 12, 2021 community meeting attracted nearly 300 community members who viewed two designs, voted on their favorite, shared their excitement, concerns, and overall appreciation to see the development and expansion of options for their children to play.

Design One was selected by the community as their favorite playground, which will be built on 3.36 acres. The new park will be the 28th park in the Town of Windsor.

“As we evolve, we want to ensure we grow the options of where and how the children in our community play,” said Fotsch. “As we build a new park, including the community through our interactive community meetings allows the parents and their children to have a direct impact on how and what is build.”

The new park will feature a passive space, active space, toddler playground, and a big-kid playground with a few of the following amenities:

  • Shelter
  • Gather hub - chairs, tables, ping pong, corn hole
  • Playground
  • Basketball court
  • Nature play
  • Green turf play area
