The 7th St. bridge over the Cache la Poudre River has several areas of deterioration that need to be repaired, which will result in a full closure of 7th St. between Eastman Park Dr. and Laku Lake Rd.

To accomplish the repairs, the existing asphalt road deck will be removed, allowing crews to make repairs to the bridge’s sub-structure from above, significantly lowering costs and improving the timeframe of the closure.

Once repairs to the sub-structure are complete, a new concrete road deck will be installed, which will increase the overall lifespan of the bridge by 15 to 25 years.

In addition to the closure of 7th St., the Poudre River Trail—which runs underneath the bridge—will also be closed in that section during the course of the project.

The Town of Windsor is pleased to announce the full reopening and completion of the 7th St. Bridg Rehabilitation Project.

The bridge has undergone critical structural rehabilitation measures to extend its lifespan and ensure continued safety for residents and commuters. Without this work, the bridge would have required a full replacement in the future—an effort that would have been significantly more costly and impactful.

The rehabilitation included structural reinforcements, improved safety features and a smoother driving surface. This upgrade ensures that the bridge can continue to serve the community reliably for years to come.

The town would like to sincerely thank residents for the patience, support and cooperation throughout the duration of this project.

Please note: Crews will remain in the vicinity in the coming days to complete final site cleanup and finishing work. While no roadway impacts are expected, we encourage drivers to remain cautious and watch for workers in the area.

Crews successfully poured the concrete for the bridge deck earlier this week, marking a significant milestone in the 7th Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project. The bridge deck forms the primary surface of the bridge that vehicles will eventually travel on, and this progress brings the project one step closer to completion.

As of Friday, August 1, crews are scheduled to install the expansion joint, which allows the bridge to safely expand and contract with changing temperatures. Following that, asphalt paving is expected to take place during the week of August 4. These final construction activities are essential to preparing the bridge for safe public use.

The project remains on schedule and continues to move toward an early August reopening. Thank you for your continued interest and support. Future updates will be provided as the bridge nears completion.

TRAFFIC ALERT: 7th St. Bridge Rehabilitation Project Underway

The 7th St. Bridge Rehabilitation Project is officially underway as of Tuesday, May 27. This vital infrastructure improvement will require a full closure of 7th St. between Eastman Park Dr. and Laku Lake Rd., lasting through the summer months and concluding prior to the start of the upcoming school year. During this period, motorists, pedestrians and cyclists will not be permitted within the designated construction zone and should utilize alternate routes.

The closure is necessary to allow for comprehensive structural repairs and upgrades to the bridge, originally constructed in the 90s, including the removal and replacement of the bridge deck, concrete barrier, bridge rails, sidewalks and guardrails. The project also includes necessary improvements to stormwater infrastructure and roadway paving.

Users of the Poudre River Trail are advised to remain especially cautious near the construction area to avoid unintentional entry into the active work zone.

Beginning Tuesday, May 27, 7th St. will be closed from the Eastman Park Dr. roundabout to Laku Lake Rd., the entrance to the Eastman Park South Expansion, for bridge rehabilitation. The closure will remain in place throughout the summer, weather permitting.

During this time, all traffic—including motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians—will be required to detour.

    Motorists

Detour via Crossroads Blvd., CO 257, and Eastman Park Dr.

    Cyclists

    • Those traveling on the Poudre River Trail (north of the closure) should detour via Eastman Park Dr. and Water Valley Pkwy.
    • Those on 7th St. (south of the closure) should detour via Laku Lake Road, the Poudre River Trail through Eastman Park, Eastman Park Drive, and Water Valley Parkway.

    Pedestrians

Remain on sidewalks and avoid the active construction zone. Those walking along the Poudre River Trail should detour via Eastman Park Dr. and Water Valley Pkwy.

    Eastman Park River Experience Users

Exercise extreme caution due to fast river flow rates. Tubers, kayakers and paddleboarders are advised to exit the river before passing under the 7th St. bridge construction zone.

This project involves complex coordination with CDOT, environmental protections for the Cache la Poudre River, and efforts to maintain access to Eastman Park and related programming. The community’s continued patience and cooperation throughout the duration of the work is extremely appreciated!
