This project aims to install riprap—a layer of rocks or boulders that protect a shoreline from erosion—along the east side of Kyger Reservoir. It is a carryover from 2024 and aligns with the Town of Windsor’s Strategic Plan.

The project will take place along the Kyger Open Space Trail, with access maintained on the south and west sides of the site. This will help ensure minimal disruption to public use while the construction is underway.

As of Tuesday, Feb. 11, the northeast portion of the Kyger Trail is closed for reservoir shoreline rehabilitation. Part of the work includes bank rock protection efforts, which uses riprap to protect the shoreline. Riprap is a type of rock used to prevent erosion by absorbing and deflecting the force of water. While construction is underway, the east parking lot and trail around the reservoir will be closed through mid-March.

This project is a critical part of keeping the reservoir's bank stable, ensuring that the improvements made will last for years to come. This work is part of the Kyger Open Space Improvements Project, which focuses on the open space enhancements as a whole, as major step forward in enhancing outdoor recreation in the area. This project began in 2024 and will bring expanded parking, easier access to the reservoir for non-motorized boats and improved fishing spots.

All construction is weather-permitting and subject to change. Learn more about the Kyger Open Space Improvements Project at windsorprojectconnect.com/KygerOpenSpaceImprovements.
